Fiona joined the Institute for Health and Society in 2019 as a Research Associate to work in the Policy Research Unit (PRU) in Behavioural Science. She works as part of a multidisciplinary team to conduct research in priority areas for health and social care policy. The behavioural science PRU conducts work across four work streams: a) Delivering high value health and social care; b) Managing demand; c) Implementation of research evidence into policy and practice; d) Engagement with policy makers.
Prior to this, she worked as a Research Associate in the Section of Public Health in the School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR) at The University of Sheffield. She worked across two projects investigating dietary transitions in African cities. This research explored dietary environments and drivers of food choice in Ghana and Kenya to inform the development of effective interventions and policies to promote healthier diets in Africa.
In 2018, she completed her interdisciplinary PhD in public health nutrition in ScHARR funded by the Grantham Centre for Sustainable Futures. She used mixed methods to develop and evaluate a point-of-choice intervention to increase the consumption of healthy and environmentally sustainable food choices. Whilst studying, she contributed to teaching on the MSc Human Nutrition programme and delivered lectures about Sustainable Diets and supervised students with their assignments.
