Project outline/ summary
Gambling has emerged as a global public health issue, with the present gambling landscape described as a threat to public health. Messaging is the most widely used measure to address gambling related harms (GRH) and is considered as an important component of a comprehensive public health approach. However, the current mostly industry-led gambling messaging does not readily facilitate a public health approach. The aim of this project is to develop public health gambling messaging. In this context, we define messaging as “public health-led population-level messaging to increase knowledge and awareness of GRH and reduce public stigma”. We will use the best available evidence, theory, and collaboration with stakeholders including different population groups to develop recommendations for (a) where, what, how, and for whom messaging is best used; (b) message design(content) and (c) delivery strategy (channels of communication).
